Lightweight geometry, with a route to a finished component.

Magnesium frames offer approximately 30% lower weight than comparable aluminum frames. JWJ combines six semi-solid magnesium machines with mold manufacturing, CNC machining and surface finishing, connecting lightweight structures with the required interfaces and finished surfaces.

Control filling before correcting the part

A semi-solid slurry flows under shear with a different filling behavior from fully liquid metal. Controlled filling reduces the conditions that promote gas entrapment; tooling and process settings still determine the result in the actual cavity.

Balance thin sections and structural features

JWJ can cast thin walls down to 0.6 mm with uniform wall thickness. Integrating housing walls, ribs and bosses starts with a coordinated review of wall transitions, filling paths and ejection, so the thin-wall geometry can be carried through into a finished component.

Separate as-cast features from precision interfaces

Lower thermal input can reduce shrinkage and distortion. Use near-net forming for the overall shape, then assign CNC finishing to the datums and interfaces that require it. JWJ reviews the casting and machining requirements as one route.

Design toward the finished surface

A dimensionally acceptable casting is only one stage of an appearance part. Visible areas, machining allowances and the subsequent coating route should be defined before tooling is finalized.

Beyond the casting

A good casting must also become a good appearance part.

JWJ has high-acceptance-rate experience with magnesium e-coated appearance parts. We connect casting, machined surfaces and coating requirements early, so a downstream finish is considered while the upstream component is being planned.
